7 January - Vulnerability Oversight Board

Outcome:
The OSPCC lead for victims and witnesses attended the meeting with Sussex Police to review work in the key areas of vulnerability including domestic violence, hate crime, serious sexual offences and the elderly.

7 January - Police & Crime Panel – Police & Crime Plan Working Group

Outcome:
The Police & Crime Panel Working Group held their second meeting. The remit of the Working Group was to consider whether the Police & Crime Plan still accurately reflected the expectations of the public and to comment on any proposed changes. The Group were also asked whether the format or information in the plan should be refreshed.

The PCC met with Professor Gloria Laycock from the UCL Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science to discuss crime reduction and evidence based policing in Sussex.

8 January - Meeting with the Chair of the Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group

Outcome:
The PCC and her CEO met with the Chair of the Coastal Clinical Commissioning Group and Chief of Corporate Affairs. Discussed the future collaborative working on joint areas of interest, such as mental health and alcohol. The PCC also updated them on the Governments Troubled Families programme and the initiatives in place across Sussex. This meeting forms part of a series of meetings the PCC is having with each CCG across the County.

Outcome:
The PCC and a member of the Joint Audit Committee met with the Head of Health & Safety at Sussex Police to review current processes. This meeting will be held every six months in order to scrutinise work in this area.

9 January - Eastbourne Community Safety Partnership meeting

Outcome:
A member of the OSPCC attended the meeting and updated the partnership in respect of the Safer in Sussex Community Fund, Policing Precept Consultation, Police & Crime Plan Refresh and the Youth Commission which were welcomed.  The partnership acknowledged that the Eastbourne Report It App has been well received by members of the public and provides them with the opportunity to report specific incidents of graffiti, dog fouling and littering which are then automatically tasked out for action.

Outcome:
The PCC met with Norman Baker MP for Lewes and Minister for Crime Reduction to update him on areas of work that MPs discussed with her on the 17 December 2013 during her briefing for them. DCC York also joined the PCC for this meeting and discussed crime reduction policies in Sussex including crime recording and integrity.

The PCC visited Eastbourne Police Station with the Home Secretary and met with partner organisations working with victims of domestic abuse. The Home Secretary also received an update on the Sussex Mental Health Street Triage pilot and met officers and NHS practitioners involved with this 12 month pilot scheme. Read more here.

20 January - Independent Police Complaints Commission Conference for Police and Crime Commissioners

The PCC and her CEO attended an Independent Police Complaints Commission conference and heard from the Acting Chief Executive. The conference focused on the IPCC strategy for improving oversight of the complaints system and current pilot activities looking at specific areas of the complaints system, and how these operate in practice.

The PCC and her CEO attended an event hosted by the APCC and the College of Policing which enabled PCCs and their offices to come together with experts in the public sector and share good knowledge and practice. The PCC attended a Policy Exchange roundtable following their publication report ‘Rebooting the PC’ which examined hardwire innovation into the structures and cultures of policing. The roundtable bought together a group of PCCs, Chief Executives, academics and Home Office officials to discuss how the Hub for Innovation in Policing might work in practice.

21 January - Association of Police & Crime Commissioners (APCC) General Meeting

Outcome:
The PCC attended the APCC AGM in London. PCCs heard from the Policing Minister Damian Green MP and Keith Bristow, Director General from the National Crime Agency. Other items covered on the agenda included mental health, the Parker report and Integrity.

Outcome:
The PCC met with a representative from the Dementia Action Alliance and heard about the plans and strategy for creating dementia friendly communities in West Sussex and discussed how community policing plays a major part in creating dementia friendly communities and towns. It was agreed that the PCC would explore opportunities to engage with the ‘Think Dementia’ roundtable event.

28 January - Meeting with Cycle East Sussex Groups

The PCC will meet with members from the Cycle East Sussex Group to discuss their concerns regarding road safety for cyclists.

Outcome:
The PCC met with 8 Cycle Groups from East Sussex joined by Sgt Stacey Elliot to discuss concerns and issues that cyclists face across the district. Some of the issues raised included pavement cycling, policing and prosecution for motoring offences and cycle training/testing. Discussions also had around ESCC Road Crash Statistics 2012 and the PCCs priorities.
