Commenting ahead of the meeting, Mrs Bourne said:

“Violence against the person is rightly a high priority for the police as it can have such a lasting effect on the victim, families and friends.

“It concerns me that there has been a sharp rise in reporting of violent crime which includes sexual offences so I want to find out whether it is particular to Sussex or whether there is a national trend. We know that we are benefitting from more accurate crime reporting but I will be asking if there are any other factors.”

Other topics under discussion include policing of the recent Brighton Pride festival, non-emergency call handling times and the role of Restorative Justice across Sussex following recommendations from the Home Office Select Committee.

The Commissioner will also ask questions on crime data integrity, improvements to the Resolution Centre and rising Sussex Police staff sickness levels.
